Parent Groups

Friends of Sequoia School (FOSS)

Friends of Sequoia School supports a vibrant and caring community “characterized by friendliness, inclusivity, and diversity, where every parent participates.” This group helps bring together all school groups through fundraising, events and communications. We think of our community as a tree with roots, trunk, branches, leaves, and seeds.

FOSS members work on teams with other committed volunteers:

  • Communications: Newsletter, Calendar, Directory, Website, and our Yahoo! Group
  • Events: Bake sales, Harvest Festival, Multicultural Potluck/Program, etc.
  • Fundraising: Grants, donations, scrip and eScrip sales, fundraising events.
  • Multicultural: increases community participation by celebrating diversity, opening conversation, and understanding cultural differences.
  • Room Parents: help teachers, drive on field trips, etc.
  • And much, much more.

Dads' Club

The Sequoia Dads' Club has been going strong since 1926, the year our school building was constructed. Each year this group of fun-loving dads provides the school with the following family and community traditions:

  • Back to School Picnic
  • Work Days
  • Harvest Festival
  • Variety Show
  • Pancake Breakfast

The Dads' Club also raises thousands of dollars each year to support Sequoia's enrichment programs and Sequoia's Teachers.

School Site Council (SSC)

The SSC is the district-mandated management team, comprised of administration, faculty, parents, and community members.  The SSC ensures that our students’ educational needs are met and budgets are kept. Any interested person may attend and participate in SSC meetings and discussions.

The School Site Council is a group who makes big-picture academic and budgetary decisions for the school. The size of this group fluctuates from 5 to 15, and includes parents, teachers, staff, and the principal.

There are 3 kinds of parents: those who ask "What's going to happen?" Those who ask: "What's happening?" and those who asked, "What just happened?" — Gail Murphy, pre-school director
